NEWLY SWORN IN GOVERNOR OF OYO STATE ENGR. SEYI MAKINDE EMULATES DANIEL DECLARED #48BN ASSETS

The newly Sworn in Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has declared his assets worth #48bn which is one of the requirements for political office holders in Nigeria.

The Governor who sees the need to make his assets public to give room for transparency and accountability was the second person to do so after the former Governor of Ogun state between 2003 – 2011, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Daniel who displayed his level of openness when assumed office declared #5.96bn in 2003 and #4.46bn which showed there was 25% drop in the asset declared earlier.

Reacting to Seyi Makinde's assets declaration story, a PR Strategist, Mr. Ajibola Osunjimi said this is what is expected from public office holder, and that was exactly what Daniel did during his term.

He further stated that politics should not be seen as money making platform, rather, it should be an avenue to serve the people with no expectation from that office.

Ajibola added that Otunba Gbenga Danel had set a very good example that should be followed by other politicians, which is a way to build, confidence in them and the position occupied.

“In the history of our great country, the late President Yar'adua was one of the few that had done public assets' declaration, the step I can say was gotten from Otunba Gbenga Daniel”says Ajibola.

He enjoined all politicians and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate this enviable behaviour.
